Activities up high

Team member attempts the high traverse on the high ropes courseWe offer a selection of activities at height with some being more appropriate than others for inclusion in a specific type of programme. Please discuss your objectives with us and we will advise on the best activities to include.

For our bespoke programmes we always tailor the individual activity to meet your exact needs. Activites at height are perfect for fun team days as well as including as part of learning for a bespoke team development, leadership development or organisational development programme. Some groups may have individuals who are not happy to be above ground level - this should not deter you from choosing an activity at height as there are always valuable roles on the ground.

High ropes course for outdoor team building

Delegate reaches the top of the pole climb on the high ropes courseOur unique high ropes course is hidden away in the woods and guests are always surprised to see the huge wooden structure rising out of the forest clearing.

There is a range of elements at different heights so the challenge level can be increased or varied through the session. From the highest elements there is a terrific view of the surrounding estate.

The challenges on the high ropes course can be either personal or paired, depending on the needs of the group and we often include a high ropes session as part of a team development or leadership development programme, where specific learning objectives have been identified. It is also one of the most popular activities to include in a fun team build or a group activity session - the whoops and shrieks ring around the forest as individuals achieve their own personal goals! For groups staying on site overnight with their programme we may even be able to include a night climb.

Zip wire for outdoor team building

The zip wire at the New Forest Outdoor CentreOur zip wire activity starts with a ladder climb to the high boughs of a huge oak tree. From there you can launch yourself down the zip line, to whistle through the air at speed for over 70 metres.

A truly exhilarating activity and the closest thing to flying that most of us will ever have the chance to experience! This wild ride is a great activity in its own right, requiring a leap of faith to leave the security of the tree to zip across the walled garden area to the safety of the landing zone.

The zip wire activity is often incorporated into the heart of many of our bespoke outdoor team development or leadership development programmes or it may be used at the end of the day as a great 'energy-boosting' session. It is also an ideal activity for fun team builds and group activity sessions*, especially popular with our stags. All participants wear full safety harnesses and helmets and the activity is run by fully qualified instructors.

Climbing & abseiling for outdoor team building

Climbing tower is one of our activities at heightOnce a mobile structure, our climbing tower has now been allowed to root itself deep in the forest! The cylindrical grey megalith reaches skyward from a grassy clearing and the views of the surrounding New Forest from the 'summit' are stunning.

There are a variety of styles of hand and foot holds incorporated into the sides of the tower to give several different grades of climbing routes. These progressive routes offer the perfect introduction to climbing and working safely with ropes.

Giant tree climb for outdoor team building

Giant tree climb is an unusual team building activityEquipped with climbing harnesses and safety ropes, the members of the team are required to work together to ascend a giant tree. Each team member must first climb up the tree trunk and then attempt to reach the top of the canopy, using the solid tree branches. The team will be supervised by a qualified instructor at all times and the principle emphasis will be on looking out for each other.

However, there is also the challenge to reach the bell at the top of the tree and the sound of ringing frequently disturbs the peace of the forest when teams choose to include this unusual activity in their programme or activity session. The view of the surrounding forest from the top of the tree is superb. There are important roles on the ground for all team members.
