Children and youth activity sessions and development programmes
We provide activity sessions for large groups (40 – 200 pupils) of young people from school and college year groups as well as tailored youth development programmes.
With 1000 acres of private estate at our disposal and a wide variety of activities, we can provide a morning, afternoon or full day session that will develop both teamwork and provide opportunities for the young people to challenge themselves. We can also run residential or non-residential tailored development programmes for students.
Outdoor activity sessions for young people
Our activity sessions offer a choice of activities including:
We always have a flexible approach to the design of your session. We can provide a session that has short 'tastes' of each activity or one where fewer activities are enjoyed but in more depth. We are happy to explore what you are wanting to achieve from your time at the New Forest Outdoor Centre and design a programme to suit - including a morning or afternoon session or both. We can provide catering but many of our youth groups prefer to bring a packed lunch.
Example session for young people
- 10.00 Arrive on site
- 10.15 High ropes (Personal challenge)
- 11.55 Aqua-relay on the lake (Team challenge)
- 12.40 Lunch
- 13.10 Low ropes course (Team work)
- 14.00 Aqua duct (Practical problem solving task)
- 14.50 Team challenges (Team work)
- 15.40 Grand finale exercise
Development programmes for young people in secondary education and above
Our tailored development programmes can be residential or non residential. Overnight options include our shepherd huts, camping (either near the centre or deep in the woods) or building and sleeping in a bivi. Each programme is always designed around the needs of the group but most overnights will involve a campfire at some stage. We can offer exclusive use of the venue, which means we can be flexible with activities and timings to suit the needs of the group on the day. Unfortunately we can not provide residentials for children in school year 11 or below.
Development programmes can be designed to encourage self reliance, utilising the whole experience of their time at the centre. Where this is required the group would be responsible for all the catering, and washing up as well as participating in the activities.
All of our development programmes are facilitated by experienced outdoor activity tutors at all times.
